Serving the Community

Teamwork and collaboration is vital to our service efforts. Here is a list of some of our club programs & initiatives, as well as the partner organizations we work with to benefit the community.


  • Polio Plus – This international project’s goal is to eradicate polio from the face of the earth. We are ever closer with the contributions made from Rotary around the world.
  • Ambassadorial Scholarship – Rotary Club of Harlem District 7230 2011-2012 Ambassadorial Scholar Marlynne Bidos was awarded this prestigious scholarship and studied abroad in Hong Kong to receive her Master of Laws (LLM) degree which is considered an advanced law certification that has global credibility.
  • Gift of Life District 7230 – program to further the cause of world peace and understanding by facilitating free medical services to children suffering from heart disease and other similar or allied diseases, regardless of race, creed or national origin, and who would otherwise lack access to such services.
  • Shelter Box – Raised money through Shelter Box to deliver humanitarian relief in the form of equipment and materials that bring shelter, warmth and dignity to people made homeless by natural or other disasters worldwide.
  • Rotary DAF Grant for Japan Tsunami/Earthquake Relief – Raised over $10,000 for Japan Relief with Manhattan Area Rotary Clubs.
  • Disaster Relief for Haiti, Nepal, Philippines Natural Disasters – Our club has raised thousands of dollars to assist with the sheltering, feeding, medical assistance and rebuilding efforts that follow a natural disaster.
  • Annual Rotary BBQ – Raised over $16,000 for local charities at annual BBQ since 2014.
  • Winter Holiday Toy Drive – Annually collect hundreds of toys for the Fraternite of Notre Dame along with other clubs in the district.
  • Book Drives – Donated over 3,000 books to Harlem school children throughout the past three years.
  • Literacy Day – Annually read to students with Education Clinic and facilitate book giveaways for the children.
  • Canaan Senior Center Holiday Party – Sponsor and attend the annual holiday party
  • Healthy Harlem– Annual health fair & workshops educating students and parents on practicing healthy lifestyles.
  • School Supply Campaign– Organized a trip to Ghana, Africa and donated school supplies to rural schools outside of Accra, Ghana with our charity partner Active Plus.
  • Apollo Amateur Night Fundraiser – Rotary Club of Harlem organized this fundraiser to raise funds for the East Africa Famine Crisis.
  • The Outreach Program– Partnered with other NY Rotary clubs to package food for local food pantries to give to their communities.


  • Canaan Senior Citizen Center– Harlem Senior living.
  • Fraternite of Notre Dame – Religious center that provides for the East Harlem community through clothes, food and services
  • Children’s Aid Society – Helps children in poverty to succeed and thrive.
  • The Early Life Center – Early childhood education center.
  • Global Language Project – Educational nonprofit that helps develop foreign language in the school system. Our Club was awarded District Matching Grant to provide secondary language courses to under-served students in Harlem.
  • SAFE in Harlem – Substance abuse prevention and awareness for Harlem youth.
  • Foundation for the Revival of Classical Culture – Classical music youth initiative
  • Active Plus – Health & fitness nonprofit that provides services to the Harlem community.
  • Life For Africa – Nonprofit that provides sustainable development through education in African countries.
  • Sojourner Truth School – District 3 Middle school in Central Harlem.
  • Blue Nile– Leadership and character development training program for youth.
  • H.O.P.E- works in partnership with residents of the community of Borgne, Haiti to address their community’s needs, including health and well being.
  • Spingreen– Minority woman owned textile recycling company that provides sustainable education in NYC schools and clothing giveaways to non-profits
  • Barefoot Foundation – Provides shoes and clothes to the under-privileged around the world.
  • Maria’s Love Foundation – Helping families who are in need due to serious illness alleviate some of the financial burden and medical expenses.
  • Education Clinic – Educational non profit that provides opportunities for children around New York City.
  • Asphalt Green – Nonprofit organization that provides sports, fitness and health programs to its members.
  • New York Cares – Meets pressing community needs by mobilizing volunteers throughout New York City.
  • Iris House- Provides support, prevention and education for people affected by HIV/AIDS.
  • Police Athletic League- Police departments around NYC coaching kids in sports and assisting with homework.
  • NYPD Explorers – Career oriented program designed to educate young men and women about law enforcement.
  • Salvation Army – Organization designed to assist the poor, destitute and hungry by meeting their physical and spiritual needs.
  • Harlem Hospital – Harlem Hospital provides vital medical services and education to community residents, including those who cannot afford health coverage.
  • Susie Cohan Colon Cancer Foundation- Foundation that conducts free health fairs around the country.
